Prohibited goods
Maritime Broker is a matching venue for legitimate trade. Because we accept all commodities, we have to be explicit about what will not be accepted. Requests are screened before publication; supplying prohibited goods is grounds for immediate account suspension and reporting to the authorities.
- Weapons & ammunition
- Firearms, parts, ammunition, military ordnance and dual-use military equipment.
- Narcotics
- Controlled substances of any kind, including precursor chemicals.
- CITES wildlife
- Ivory, rhino horn, tiger parts, tortoiseshell, and any species listed under CITES. This includes seafood from CITES-listed populations.
- Counterfeit goods
- Replica or imitation branded products, and forged documents.
- Sanctioned parties
- Any trade involving a sanctioned country, entity or individual (OFAC, EU, UN lists).
- Human remains & parts
- Human organs, tissues, blood and related materials.
- Unapproved pharmaceuticals
- Medicines without regulatory approval for the destination market.
- Hazardous without certification
- Dangerous goods where the shipper cannot supply an SDS and IMDG classification.
- Dual-use goods
- Items with both civilian and military applications.
- Precursor chemicals
- Chemicals used in controlled manufacturing.
- Enhanced-concern species
- Seafood from stocks under recovery, or caught with prohibited gear.
- Agricultural goods
- Need phytosanitary certificates; some origins are embargoed.
Every requirement is checked against a pattern list in the application and a database table (prohibited_goods / hs_code_restrictions) that platform staff can extend without a code deployment. A match holds the request for human review rather than silently deleting it — a legitimate shipment of an unusual commodity should get a hearing, not a rejection.
Sellers and carriers are responsible for their own screening of the counterparty. Maritime Broker does not screen its users against sanctions lists at launch; do not transact with a counterparty you have not independently verified.
